Pollinator Demonstration Garden

The Pollinator Demonstration Garden is planted with 24 different species of perennials and ornamental grasses that are native to North America. All of these plants were chosen to attract bees and butterflies and provide the habitat and food sources they need to survive. Come visit the garden and see how many you can identify!

This garden was jointly designed by CLDS directors Rick Mikula, an international butterfly expert, and Krista Schneider, a landscape architect. Planted by volunteers in May 2011, the garden illustrates the important role that pollinators play in our food chain. According to the National Gardening Association, “one out of every three bites of food we eat is made possible by a pollinator, and 80 percent of all flowering plants rely on pollinators for survival.”  To view a planting plan of the garden, click here>>>

Funding for this demonstration garden was provided by an Environmental Education grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
